The role of mineral resources in the Great War
The author provides the data on development of the minerals and raw-materials base and construction of new facilities for mineral raw materials production and processing during the Great Patriotic War in the Eastern regions of the Soviet Union. He emphasizes the role of the military geology in the engineering support of the battle-fronts. The author also characterizes the situation in the mineral and raw-material complexes and the industrial capacities of the allies (Great Britain, USA). He appraises the role of the mineral and raw material resources in the post-war economic recovery of the Soviet Union.

The author emphasizes the role of small and medium enterprises in mining operations, in particular in oil and gas industry. He proposes a number of governmental measures to support such enterprises. These measures are expected to ensure fuller use of subsoil resources, additional tax revenues to the budget of the Russian Federation and resolve the problem of the local population employment.

The application of finite element method for modeling of the disintegration process of dunite platinum ores
The results of modeling of the disintegration process of dunite platinum ores with the application of finite element method and analysis of stress-strain state of rock under crushing in the cone crusher with a fixed axis are discussed. Results of mathematical calculations have shown the possibility of excessive grinding of large grains and nuggets of PGE, defining the basic productivity of ore that could lead to an increase of platinum content in the small and fine fractions which are worthy extracted by gravitation methods.

The authors present the results of mineralogical and lithological research of interrelations between sulphide minerals of iron with black iron ore and their influence upon processing properties of ferruginous quartzites of Kursk magnetic anomaly. They propose a classification of ferruginous quartzites by sulphide factor based on textural and structural peculiarities of the separated mineral components.

The authors have developed a technology for producing iron from ferrous and non-ferrous metals ore processing wastes using acidic mine and under spoil waters. They suggest using a new device – geoautoclave, which allows to extract virtually 100% of associated valuable components and obtain environmentally safe aluminosilicate components for ceramic ware and construction materials production.

Methodological approach to assessment of the process of derelict lands rehabilitation within operating mining complexes
Based on the analysis of the environmental impact of the production activities of mining-and-metallurgical integrated works JSC «Severonikel» (Murmansk region) and closed corporation «Karabashmed» (Chelyabinsk region), which are characterized by extremely high long-term development pressure on the environment, the authors show that during the environmental renovation planning the ecosystems' natural self-regeneration capabilities should be taken into account, which allows to optimize the expenses during rehabilitation of disturbed natural ecosystems.
