- Abstract:
- The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of microwaves of varying volumetric intensities (3, 4,54, and 5,3 W/cm3) on the selective disintegration of cobalt-copper-nickel sulfide ore particles from the Shanuch deposit at varying exposure times (60 – 480 s). The experiment demonstrated that microwave treatment with volumetric intensities of 3 W/cm3 (180 s) and 4,54 W/cm3 (360 s) does not cause visually visible structural changes on the surface of the sulfide ore particles. Increasing the volumetric intensity to 5 W/cm3 for 300 s caused both the opening of existing microcracks and their formation. Experiments showed that the ore temperature at a volumetric radiation intensity of 3 W/cm3 reached 426,2°C after 480 s of treatment. At 4,54 W/cm3, the ore temperature reached 476,4°C after 360 s. At maximum intensity, the temperature reached 468,2°C after 300 s. With further microwave treatment at these intensities, a nonlinear increase in temperature was recorded, followed by a slowdown and stabilization, indicating the onset of phase transformations in the ore. The dependence of the ore’s specific heat capacity on the process duration was determined at these three volumetric intensities. The treatment of particles of cobalt-copper-nickel sulfide ore from the Shanuch deposit with microwave radiation will facilitate subsequent processing by opening, forming microcracks and increasing the contact surface, in particular by intensifying the process of bacterial-chemical leaching, with the aim of isolating target components from them.
