- The Department of Mining and Metallurgy is one of the oldest in our university. It appeared among the first nine departments of the Kazakh Mining and Metallurgical Institute, created by the decree of the Council of People's Commissars in 1934. A young scientist from the Moscow Mining Institute, Professor P. A. Ryzhov, was invited to head the department. On his initiative, the republic began training mining engineers and surveyors for the first time. The first graduation took place in 1942.

- Preliminary results of assessing the nature and dynamics of changes in the vegetation cover of the Alakol territory based on Earth remote sensing (ERS) data are presented. The need to use geographic information systems (GIS) that meet the modern level of development of science and technology is considered. The results indicate the restoration of vegetation cover after the completion of the construction of boarding houses and many recreation centers. Good restoration of grass cover was noted

- The article presents the results of GPS-monitoring studies in the zone of major tectonic faults on the territory of Almaty. It has been established that monitoring the movement of the Earth's crust is necessary to understand the processes preceding earthquakes and to develop forecasting models. Knowledge of the movement of the Earth's crust is important to ensure the safety of infrastructure such as roads, bridges and residential buildings. The results of the study can be useful for conducting scientific research (when monitoring, analyzing and predicting the movement of the Earth's crust in regions with increased seismic activity) related to the structure of the Earth's crust and the tectonics of the region

- The article presents the results of studying the strength properties of rocks of the Zhilandinsky groups of deposits. The methods of mathematical statistics and correlation analysis made it possible to generalize the data of the physical and mechanical properties of rocks and to obtain graph-analytical dependences between the strength properties of rocks and the depth of their occurrence in the subsurface. The possibility of predicting the strength properties of rocks is scientifically substantiated

- Abstract:
- The article presents the results of studies of the structural features of the massif and the strength properties of rocks of the Karatau phosphorite deposits. The general pattern of variability of the strength properties of rocks in the massif was considered by the method of mathematical statistics and correlation analysis, as well as data on rock properties for deposits in the Karatau basin, where a stable relationship between average density, strength, adhesion, resistance and depth of their occurrence was established. The stress-strain state of the massif was determined by the unloading method and the correlation dependence of horizontal stresses on the depth of occurrence, as well as an assessment of the degree of strength, elasticity, plasticity of rocks and their ability to fracture or deformation under various loads. The regularities and parameters of the process of displacement of rock massifs similar in geological and tectonic structure for predicting the properties of rocks in the deposits of the basin are revealed. The results of the research can be useful in solving a number of technical problems in quarries and underground mines in assessing the stability of ledges and sides of quarries, in predicting angular displacement parameters, in calculating targets and ceiling spans

- Abstract:
- The article presents the results of monitoring the condition of surface buildings and structures during the construction and operation of the Almaty metro located within a radius of 80 meters. In such a situation, the problem of managing geodynamic processes during the construction and operation of the subway can be solved on the basis of the methodology of conducting geodetic monitoring of the condition of engineering structures considered in this article. It is shown that when conducting geodetic monitoring and monitoring of deformations of engineering structures using modern geodetic instruments such as global navigation satellite systems, electronic total stations, laser levels, it will allow obtaining information about the ongoing deformation processes of buildings and structures located in close proximity to the metro under construction and in operation with a high degree of accuracy, which will ensure timely management decisions solutions for long-term and safe operation
