Methodology for evaluating geological databases for the purpose of zoning technological types and grades of ores in open-pits

- Abstract:
- The article presents the provisions of the developed methodology for assessing the quality indicators of minerals based on block modeling technologies using modern mining and geological information systems (GGIS). A flowchart for modeling the qualitative indicators of a mineral is proposed and the results of its use are presented on the example of the Gusevogorsky deposit of titanomagnetites and the Serov deposit of complex ores. The presented methodology allows us to zone technological types and grades of ores with high reliability in the quarry space, which contributes to solving the problems of design, planning and production management in conditions of economic uncertainty, deteriorating mining and geological and mining-technological conditions of field development. Based on the analysis of computer modeling techniques, a flowchart has been developed showing the relationship between technological solutions for open-pit mining and modeling stages. The article uses examples to confirm the universality of the proposed method of block modeling of the quality of PI, which can be used at any field to solve specific mining problems. The presented scientific results serve as a basis for the development of methods for managing the quality of mineral raw materials and improving the planning of mining operations in the quality management mode. The proposed methodology is universal and allows for the assessment of the quality indicators of minerals for the selection of rational methods of quality management of mineral raw materials.

- Abstract:
- The purpose of the article is to detail the concept of humanization of ore extraction technologies in the underground mining of metal deposits. The main problem of mining has become the handling of processing waste, the amount of which is increasing due to the transfer of ore reserves to the inactive category due to selective extraction of ores from the subsoil. The methodology of the problem research includes experiments, modeling, theoretical analysis and generalization of practice data. The stages of development of mining production in the historical section are given. Information is provided on the possibilities of traditional enrichment technologies for the disclosure of ores and the loss of ore components in tailings. The role of the phenomenon of controlling the state of the massif in the process of purification extraction and reducing the dilution of ores by rocks during the development of critical stresses is explained. An algorithm for controlling the state of the array using the geomechanical effect is proposed. It is shown that the volume of diluting rocks depends on the phenomenon of the formation of a rigid hinge arch from wedged rocks. The options for correcting the state of the massif due to overlaps, inclination of the ore walls, creation of a protective wall and anchoring of rocks are presented. A variant of development with the integration of technologies at the stages of existence is recommended. The characteristic of technologies with the leaching of metals from ores is given, as the main reserve for increasing the mineral resource base for obtaining metals due to the involvement in the production of substandard ore reserves for traditional technologies. A forecast of ore mining conditions in the future has been made. It is concluded that a radical measure to reduce the risk of waste is the use of combined chemical enrichment and mechanical activation during their disposal.

- Abstract:
- Article provides review of modern research on hydraulic technology application for coal seam gas drainage, rock stress relief, rock scaling and other supplementary operations. Radial slots in drilled wells play significant role on gas drainage and stress relief process. Cutting such slots is achievable with high-pressure waterjets bits. Experiments on rock scaling shows good results as well, hydraulic machines achieve same level of productivity as mechanical ones. Author of reviewed researches claims perspectives of this technology due to its safety, simplicity and high productivity. Using modern robotic and automation technology it is possible to use hydraulic technology not only for supplementary operations, but for roadheading and coal extraction as well.

Some aspects of improving underground mining deposits of complex structure with a concrete filling

- Abstract:
- The article details the concept of improving the underground mining of complex structure metal deposits by using systems filling mined-out spaces with solid mixtures. The purpose of the study is to generalize the experience of intensive ore mining while preserving the earth’s surface, as an indicator of the environmentally correct development technology. The research methodology includes observation in full-scale and laboratory conditions, comparison with analogues, experiment, analysis of results, engineering forecasting, semi-industrial and industrial implementation, and theoretical experimentation using standard and new methods. The results of the study. The study highlights the correlation between the performance of ore-bearing stress-deformed rocks, stability of natural and artificial massifs and mine workings. It was determined that structural heterogeneities account for the discrepancy between stresses in massifs and the geostatic distribution law and a mathematical-analytical model for consolidation of discrete rocks was used in the studies. The article shows that voltage regulation makes it possible to use less expensive technologies to reclaim the mined –out space. The study assesses the possibility of using mill tailings, heap leaching, hydrometallurgy, mine waters, ash from electrofilters and wastewater from CHP plants as part of hardening mixtures. The research also considers the issues of environmental safety. The results of the study can be used in modernization of the existing and design of a new mining production.

The digital twin technology and its application for mining industry

- Abstract:
- The material production is a main component in almost any kind of economy. It is always a high-tech industry, that must meet the requirements of efficiency, performance and competitiveness. To satisfy all these demands the material industry often needs to be transformed into digital industry. This process consists of the development and application of digital platforms, digital twins of real objects and processes, as well as the transition to cyber-physical systems. These global changes are accompanied by the development of fundamentally new business processes and business models at all levels. The development and application of digital twins is an advanced technology (although it is based on quite old ideas), it is an integrator of “end-to-end” digital technologies and new production capabilities (primarily digital design and modeling). It provides a significant contribution to the creation of globally competitive next-generation products in the shortest possible time. Research results: In this article we present a description of Digital Twin term in its diversity. Multiple kinds of digital twin’s classification were given and also we introduce many examples of this technology’s usage in mining industry.

Study of the influence of ultrasonic influenceon the kinetics of the process of bacterial-chemical leaching of metals

- Abstract:
- This work was carried out to study the effect of ultrasonic treatment of ore pulp on the kinetics of the process of bacterialchemical leaching of metals. The intensities of ultrasonic vibrations chosen for the experiment were 4.0, 7.2, 11.0, 21.0 W/cm2, at a frequency of 22 kHz, and the total power of the ultrasonic vibration generator was 400 W. Ultrasonic treatment in the flow chamber of a mounted laboratory installation was carried out for 30 minutes. After 1, 3, 10, 15 and 30 minutes, samples were taken, pH, Eh and the number of microorganism cells in 1 ml of ore pulp were determined. Analysis of literature data showed that ultrasonic treatment with an intensity of more than 20 W/cm2 of the solid phase of ore pulp for 15–20 minutes ensures the cleaning of the surface of crystalline phases from oxide films. This will intensify the process of bacterial-chemical leaching. The experiments showed that ultrasonic exposure at an intensity of 21 W/cm2 and higher, with a process duration of more than 1200 s, and an oscillation frequency of 22 kHz, inactivates microorganisms, which will reduce the kinetics of the bacterial-chemical leaching process. It follows from this that in order to increase the kinetics of the process, it is advisable to separately apply ultrasound to the ore pulp to clean the surface of oxide films, then mix the pulp with a bacterial suspension and carry out the process of bacterial-chemical leaching.

- In order to intensify the kinetics of the bacterial-chemical leaching process ore, the main types and design features of reactors and reactor installations for implementing this process were analyzed. The existing systems for smooth regulation of pulp flow, aeration, thermostatting, control and automatic regulation of reactor parameters are analyzed. Based on an analysis of their advantages and disadvantages, a flow-type cascade reactor plant was designed and installed. For the installation, a system has been developed to regulate the parameters of the leaching process - temperature, pH of the mixture of pulp and bacterial suspension, frequency of mixing the mixture, aeration system, thermostatting.

- The article presents the results of experiments investigating the proportions of mixing ore with bacterial solutions that can be useful in the extraction of metals in hydrometallurgy. The degree of inoculum dilution on the growth of the autochthonous mixed bacterial culture isolated from the oxidized ore of the Shanuch deposit is analyzed. The experiments were carried out in two loading options: inoculum + ore and bacterial suspension + ore and at different solid to liquid ratios of 1:5 and 1:8. The results showed that an increase in the dilution degree (1:8) leads to a more significant cell growth at the later stages of the experiment. For example, with the bacterial suspension + ore (1:8) option, the cell count increased sharply to 133.4 × 107 cells/ml. In general, the experiments confirm that dilution promotes the growth of bacteria at the later stages, which may be important for the optimization of bacterial-chemical technologies for processing sulfide ores.

Project decisions reliability assessment of definition opencast mining parameters and indicators

- Abstract:
- Introduction. When designing a opencast mine, it is necessary to establish the boundaries of the efficiency zone and develop scenarios for the implementation of the project, recommendations for the formation of the working zone of the opencast mine during the operation of the field, taking into account the stochastic nature of the initial geological data. The higher the recoverable value of minerals, the higher the costs of geological exploration are acceptable to reduce the risk of non-confirmation of the initial design information. The uncertainty of the implementation of design solutions for the development of deposits is explained by a number of factors. Methodology. The reliability of the implementation of the adopted design decisions decreases sharply with the increase in the forecasting period. It is inexpedient to make realistic forecasts for more than 15 years due to the growth of project and financial risk over time, as well as the discounting factor. Errors in long-term forecasting are compensated by the fact that the economic value of indicators of the distant future is leveled by the procedure of discounting multi-time costs. Methods of quantitative analysis of project risk are sensitivity analysis, scenario analysis and risk modeling by Monte Carlo. It is expedient to assess the sensitivity of a criterion economic indicator (for example, net present value) to various types of deviations in the initial data accepted at the initial stage of design by developing scenarios for the implementation of the project in various mining and mining and geological conditions, taking into account the volatility of prices and demand in the mineral market. Conclusions. Systematic consideration of scenarios for the development of the working area of the open pit and the construction of its contours is achieved by taking into account the mutual influence of parameters and indicators, such as the angle of slope of the pit wall, the marginal stripping factor, the boundary cut-off content of useful components. Summary. Establishment in the design documentation of the opencast mine productivity that is possible in terms of mining technical factors, close to the production capacity of mining equipment, leads to the absence of a reserve for increasing productivity at the mining enterprise. To ensure the possibility of prompt response to changes in the external conditions of the project implementation, it is advisable to build a reserve of production capacity. On the one hand, the formation and maintenance of reserves reduces the risk of not achieving the design productivity of the opencast mine, and on the other hand, it is associated with additional costs. The creation of reserves provides an opportunity to stabilize the productivity of the open pit in a certain range of volatility of the external conditions of the project implementation.

Conceptual approaches to taxation coal mining

- An analysis of the current taxation scheme for the coal industry made it possible to identify the following shortcomings: the lack of normative and methodological documents on determining and controlling the tax base, as well as weak differentiation of mineral extraction tax depending on the mining-geological, technical, technological conditions of mining works and quality of extracted products. The noted shortcomings put subsoil users in unequal conditions and reduce the efficiency of extraction tax collection. This predetermines the need for a new production taxation scheme. The most effective, as the world experience of taxation in the field of subsoil use has shown, is a scheme that directly taxes additional income generated during the extraction of minerals, i.e. transition to rental relations. Model calculations based on the financial model of cash flows of a real mining project of the main indicators of the project in the context of the implementation of various production taxation schemes made it possible to propose a combined taxation scheme: before the reimbursement of investments, the withdrawal of mining rent is carried out on the basis of the mineral extraction tax, and then, upon reaching profitable production, switching to the additional tax. The proposed scheme for the withdrawal of mining rent will theoretically reduce tax risks and increase contributions to the budget, while maintaining the in-vestment attractiveness of coal mining.

- In order to evaluate the effectiveness of gas-generating pyrotechnic compositions, this article presents a study of the quality of crushing oversized pieces of rock in a quarry by deflagration. The research is aimed at improving the process of secondary crushing in mining enterprises. This paper presents the results of experiments on crushing oversized pieces of rock using the deflagrating composition «Enamat», when various parameters and materials of the slaughtering were used for a comparative analysis of the piston effect of gaseous deflagration products in the hole. The results of the study may be useful in the secondary crushing of oversized pieces of rocks in quarries.

- Abstract:
- The article provides an assessment of the conditions for effective rock hardening for the continuous maintenance of a mine work located in a watered massif, while fastening it with the most common three-link arched metal fastener. The range of depths and strength characteristics of rocks at which their hardening is effective is determined. An indicator of the rock hardening coefficient was obtained, characterizing the need to reduce the displacement of rocks into production under certain conditions. An assessment of the effectiveness of rock hardening to ensure the stability of mine workings is given in order to exclude cases when rock hardening is not effective.

- Abstract:
- The article presents studies of the operation of two-level anchorage in the mines of the Russian Donbass in excavation workings preserved for reuse. It was found that at great depths (more than 600 m), despite a significant excess (1.5–3.0 times) of the reinforcement resistance required in accordance with the «Instructions for calculating the use of anchorage in coal mines», passports using a two-level anchorage scheme often do not provide acceptable displacements of roof rocks. The reasons for this are the incorrectness of spreading the experience of using two-level anchor schemes for fixing excavation workings in the Kuzbass mines and calculation algorithms based on it, contained in the specified Instruction, to the mines of the Russian Donbass. To ensure the effective use of two-level anchorage at great depths, it is necessary to carry out research work on correcting the algorithm for determining the parameters of this support for the mines of the Russian Don Bass, as well as add to the Instructions the requirements for fixing the bushings of rope anchors for the entire length in durable monolithic roof rocks and conducting daily observations of the condition of the support and displacements of the roof rocks of the workings to ensure the possibility of timely decision-makings on strengthening the support.

- This paper presents the results of long-term monitoring of the deformation processes of the massif of the main types of rocks in the studied mining and capital workings of the Gremyachinsky deposit. Displacement monitoring was performed using a digital tape extensometer at installed reference stations. The proposed monitoring technique makes it possible to determine the actual values of the displacements, according to the results of which the relationship between the values of the displacements in time at different observation sites is established. The results obtained are used to assess the stable state of the rock mass during the long-term operation of mining and capital workings, and can also serve as a basis for the design of mining workings in similar mining and geological conditions.

- Intensification of subsurface use is an obligatory and necessary condition for the constant and, unfortunately, uncontrolled expansion of reproduction of all kinds of material goods and infrastructure systems that ensure the well-being of the rapidly growing population of our planet. The geological setting of the location of ore deposits leads to the fact that mining enterprises under construction and operated acquire the role of the vanguard of man-made intrusion into the natural biota of the Earth, and the degree of environmental danger of inevitable changes in this biota determines both the conditions of existence of natural biotopes in vast territories and the possibility of their restoration in the post-exploitation period. That is why the purpose of the study is constantly relevant – the features and dynamics of the course of digressive successions of specific phytocenoses in the zones of man-made impact of mining enterprises, depending on the structure and nature of the use of land allotments necessary for effective subsurface use.

- Abstract:
- Environmental monitoring is essential for assessing the status and supporting development policies related to soil, air, and water quality. This study focuses on Drury Industries Limited, established in 1986, which is one of West Africa’s leading manufacturers of Aluminium sulfate and sulfuric acid. The company operates multiple production lines, including Sulfuric Acid Plant I (52,000 MT/year), Sulfuric Acid Plant II (60,500 MT/year), and Aluminium sulfate (90,000 MT/year). The sulfuric acid produced is a crucial raw material, enhancing efficiency in various industrial processes. Located on 177,145 m2 at Plot 9/18, Opic Industrial Estate, Agbara, Ogun State, the facility’s coordinates are N06032′28.1″ E003o04′36.1″. This study evaluates various physicochemical parameters that impact human health, productivity, and relevant meteorological data. The findings will not only safeguard health but also serve as a reference for similar industrial sites. By publishing this data in the Journal «Mine Surveying and Subsurface Use» we aim to fill a gap, as many relevant studies in Sub-Saharan Africa remain unpublished. This research will aid in preserving and protecting essential resources within complex environments.

- The article considers the possibility of using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for geodetic monitoring of pipeline deformations in remote Arctic areas. Pipelines are one of the most important elements of the oil and gas infrastructure and their technical condition directly affects the safety and efficiency of hydrocarbon transport. A comparison of the method of monitoring overhead pipelines by geometric leveling and the method of laser scanning using is carried out. The possibility of using the method of geodetic monitoring of deformations of underground pipelines using laser scanning systems and unmanned aerial vehicles in the conditions of the far north is considered.

- The article considers the issue of forecasting displacements and deformations of a quarry of complex shape, characterized by curvilinear sides in plan. In the course of the study, numerical modeling was carried out in the Plaxis 3D software package based on the numerical finite element method. To simulate the stress-strain state of a rock mass, a homogeneous model was built, for which the physical-mechanical and deformation properties are set according to the results of engineering and geological surveys. The calculation of displacements and deformations in the massif was carried out based on the use of a material behavior model with hardening soil. The analysis of the stress-strain state of the massif formed as a result of mining operations was carried out, a qualitative and quantitative assessment of the stress values was made, the localization and predicted values of displacements and deformations in the sides of the open pit were determined. Based on the obtained predictive values of deformations, a conclusion was made about the location of the most dangerous areas in terms of the manifestation of deformation processes and a further possible violation of the stability of the sides of the open pit. It has been established that the identified areas do not quite coincide with the areas where field monitoring observations are carried out. Recommendations are formulated to improve the monitoring project by organizing additional field observations in the identified hazardous zones.

Defining working parameters of conveyor-type pipe feeding systems for trenchless pipeline installation and mining

- Analyzing the lab and job site testing data related to friction and clamping interaction between rubber compound-lined track-type conveyors and steel pipes in pipe feeding systems used in trenchless construction the article gives insight into major engineering principles behind the distribution of forces and reactions inside conveyor-based pipe feeding systems with axial force over 200 tons and discloses the relation between the parameters of the pipe and working characteristics of the continuous pipe feeding system. The research allowed to define the necessary clamping force developed by a 200-ton machine, maximum achievable friction factor consistent with the strength of steel rubber-coated conveyor plates and the ability of the most popular pipes used in trenchless industry to withstand the radial loads communicated by rubber-coated pads of the pipe feeder.
